With over 30 years experience in Art Education at Primary Level, Secondary, Third Level & Adult Education, I have spent 25 of those years teaching Secondary School Art from first year to sixth year. My approach is thorough. I have always taught to a Distinction and H1 standard. This level of excellence is core to my values, to all my work, in healing, in teaching and private tuition.

In my home I offer a supportive environment where you can explore your creativity and achieve exceptional results in Art at all levels including Junior & Leaving Certificate Art and Portfolio Preparation for Third Level.

As well as teaching privately, I am available to do commissions and large scale projects like murals and window art.

My Art Teaching Services

I provide a wide array of specialised art teaching services tailored to students of all levels.  My approach ensures a thorough & enriching artistic experience where I encourage the student to play on their strengths, develop & hone their skills and work from starting points & primary sources that they love & support their examination work & meet all the requirements for examinations, projects and/or portfolio requirements.

Leaving Certificate Art

I provide comprehensive preparation for Leaving Certificate Art covering the three core areas of the Leaving Certificate Art Syllabus including;

1. Visual Studies (Art History) -  I cover all three sections (Europen & Irish Art & Todays World) providing my own notes, sketches, sample answers & essays taken from the LC Art Papers. My approach is thorough and focused on repeated revision of topics to develop answering skills for Examination in June of 6th year.

2. Project Work - Preparation, direction and guidance is given on how best to approach and complete the project worth 50%.

3.Practical Examination takes place in the last term of 6th year and is  worth 20%. I help students to carefully prepare, plan, build their confidence and self belief so that they are ready for this 5 hour examination.

 

Individual and small group (max 3 students) are welcome to book 1 or 2 hour sessions. Group rates apply. All Visual Study notes and drawing materials are  provided.

Junior Certificate Art 

The Focus is getting prepared for on CBA1 in second year and CBA2 in third year. CBA2  leads directly  into the Junior Certificate Project which determines the grade you are awarded.  Students are supported by me and guided though each stage of their work with idea generation, drawing skills and realisation of final works.

 

Portfolio Preparation for 3rd Level

I provide support, guidance and instil in the student a desire to produce a body of work that showcases the student's excellence,  uniqueness, their, abilities and interests.

Some of the Practical Areas I Teach.

Drawing techniques - Teaching from basic to advanced skills, using pencil, charcoal, pastels, ink and mixed media.

 

Graphic Design including Poster Design, Display Cards, Book Covers, Book Jackets, Stamps and Logo

 

Web Design from concept, visuals, written information, composition & arrangement to final design.

 

Book crafts including Paper Crafts, Origami, Folder making & Card making.

 

Printmaking - Relief Print Projects - Lino & woodblock, Monoprinting, Fabric Printing using Repeat Patterns. 

 

Textiles - Batik, Dry Felting, Weaving, Creative Embroidery using hand stitching, machine sewing, patchwork & traditional applique with mixed media. All types of fabric construction & manipulation can be used to create accessories like hats, bags, cushions, wall hangings. I also incorporate jewellery making with textiles. 

 

Cyanotype photography - I specialise & teach Cyanotype photography. This magical process uses the sun’s UV rays to turn your drawings or copied images into stunning white & prussian blue images.  

 

Decorative Crafts: I specialise in mask making and puppetry using plaster casting & model-making and mixed media.

Limited Edition Commissions

Along with healing, I have always been passionate about making beautiful art pieces & exploring different media & areas of practice like ceramics, painting, printmaking, textiles, batik, graphics, creating Cyanotypes and limited edition pieces.  Now my work is available for sale and to do commissions. 

As part of my commissioned work, I provide are outdoor and indoor murals,  window art and installations from small scale to very large. All projects are designed & executed by me after consultation with the client. I supply the materials & a number of designs and thumbnail sketches  to choose from.
